New Zealand Nurses and Midwives 2000
This publication contains data about enrolled and registered nurses (including midwives) who were active in the New Zealand nursing and midwiferey workforce in 2000 in both the public and private sectors. The information is based on the results of a questionnaire that accompanied the Annual Practising Certificate application form sent out by the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
The data is analysed by age group, sex, ethnicity, country of qualification, employment setting, work type, hours of work, and geographical location. The data for midwives and for direct-entry midwives is also presented separately.
Some of the key facts from the publication:
- In 2000, there were 32,676 active registered nurses and midwives.
- There was an increase of 32.2 percent in the number of active registered nurses and midwives between 1990 and 2000.
- There were 853 active registered nurses and midwives per 100,000 population in New Zealand in 2000.
- In 2000, there were 4300 enrolled nurses.
- There was a 34.2 percent decrease in the number of enrolled nurses between 1990 and 2000.
- There were 112 enrolled nurses per 100,000 population in New Zealand in 2000.
